Design & Durability

Its flexible screen helps fold in a compact squared size, making it easy to carry, but you can still use it thanks to its large secondary screen. While there is not much difference compared to its predecessor model, some improvements have been observed, including a larger battery, an upgraded processor with a vapor chamber cooling system, and redefined camera features. It has the same, size and weight as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, which is enlightening due to its larger battery size, the ring around the cameras gives it a unique look compared to all previous generations of Galaxy Flip phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is equipped with Gorilla glass Victus 2 protection on the outside panel, and comes with a reinforced aluminum hinge. The device can be locked at any angle providing support for video calling. The phone has IP48 certification for dust resistance.

Display

The display is similar to the previous generation equipped with a 6.7-inch foldable  LTPO Super AMOLED 1080p resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate., 3.4 inches, 720 x 748 pixels (Gorilla Glass Victus 2) The brightness varies from 750 nits typical and 1500 nits Auto brightness mode. Which is good enough in daylight visibility. The display has a 120hz maximum refresh rate but drops to 24hz on a static screen to save energy. The display is vivid and crisp. The screen fold is also minimal in this phone, though it is noticeable from certain angles. The videos can be viewed from a small screen too. The cover display is 3.4 inches, 720 x 748 px with a 60Hz refresh rate of 306 ppi.

The home screen UI features are limited in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 compared to the full-fledged Motorola Razer. The Flip 6 lets you access important functions rather than allowing you to use similar functions as the main screen such as access, quick toggle settings, check notifications, and responding to texts, widget support is also present which has a calendar, compass, etc., and additional widgets can also be downloaded, third-party is also supported, various apps are included such as Messages, Maps, Youtube, Netflix.

User Interface & OS

Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 with Android 14, is a specialized version of the interface offering some extra budget-friendly specific features making it unique, for eg. The interface will split into 2 in some apps to make it more functional. Another feature that has been enhanced is the live interpreter, here two persons can have a conversation in two different languages and its translation can be seen on the main screen and the cover screen. The interpreter utilizes Samsung’s AI and various AI-based features are optimized too, which were observed first in Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series, which consists of a transcription of audio recordings, AI-based photo editing, and search by creating a circle, FlexCam is used to zoom in and zoom out on objects and FlexWindow helps in taking selfies hands-free. Samsung is providing 7 generations of OS upgrades and 7 years of security patches.

Hardware

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 consists of a pair of stereo speakers, the loudness and sound quality are the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 but with improved bass. The fingerprint scanner is installed with the power button, which is fast and responsive. It has 256/512 GB of storage but cannot be expanded with micro SD. It has the chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which has a higher clock speed, still, it didn’t score well when benchmarks were compared with other flagships of 2024. But it doesn’t mean it’s underperforming, it can be used for multi-tasking and gaming. First, ever Flip series phone with vapor chamber cooling. It helps in heat management. Though it still was unable to overcome the limitations of form factor, heavy throttling was found in the lengthy stress test, it was even observed to be more than last year.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 has 4000 mAh of battery capacity, resulting in increased battery life, which has been upgraded compared to its predecessor model. The Samsung Z flip6 got 10 hours and 35 minutes in battery test. The charging power is still 25W, the charger will not be included in the box. It took half an hour to get charged from 0 to 44% and an hour & 41 minutes to get to 100%, which is slower than before due to its larger battery, lastly it also supports wireless charging.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 has a dual camera, with the main camera being changed to 50MP inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S24, which has dual-pixel Dual Pixel AF, and OIS. During the daytime, the main camera performs well with detailed and noise-free pictures, and its detailing can be more crisp, when compared with previous models the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is more naturally detailed, with moderate sharpening, and the pictures are clearer. In low light, the results are remarkable the images are produced with mellow noise reduction parting some graininess details, the colors are saturated well, and the dynamic range is satisfying. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 has the upper hand over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, at night time with its enhanced details, minimal sharpening, and a better dynamic range.

The ultra-wide camera has a 12MP sensor and a FOV 123° is good, but with some increased sharpening with decent colors. In the night-time the ultra-wide dynamic range is good, colors are saturated again, and detail is impressive even with some noise. With the main camera, it is easier to take selfies, the cover screen can be used as a viewfinder, and the ultrawide can also be used to capture selfies and group photos but with the exclusion of auto-focus. Now for the front camera, it is a 10MP installed within the inner screen, but with a bit of sharpening. All the cameras can record 4K videos, from main and ultra the videos are amazing, with decent colors and dynamic range, but their details are not as amazing as their opponents. The movements seem uninterrupted and stable owing to its electronic stabilization, even in low-light settings it does an impressive job.

Conclusion

The Samsung Z Flip6 flagship phone complies with all the standards of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 it brings some solid improvements too such as dust resistance, an increased battery life, a better processor, a better main camera, and various AI features making your work experience smoother. If you are looking to invest in a Flip phone then the Samsung Galaxy Flip6 is a much better option as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 did not bring much of an upgrade from its last models, the Samsung Galaxy Flip6 is a better choice.
