Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

I have had a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra since March and I’ve been using this device since then. But it made me feel something was lacking in this device despite being so perfect. If you are looking for Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Specification and general information you may visit here. So let’s begin our Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: a 6-month hands-on review.

What I look into a Flagship

It’s arguably the best Android device available in the market. It is costly and available in the Indian market at around INR 1,21,999 in India, but the company ensures 7 years of update, so the price justifies the cost you are paying. If you have a Samsung S23 Ultra and are confused you should upgrade my verdict would be you should hold off because it isn’t the biggest leap from last year’s generation.

Let’s talk about long-term review.

For me, a phone’s main features depend on good battery life, durability, and display, and then it’s all about the performance and camera quality.

Durability

The Samsung S24 Ultra was impressive in terms of its build quality. I’m using this phone without a cover or screen guard. I placed the phone casually in a drawer or my jeans pocket along with the keys and didn’t see any single scratch on the phone. The phone’s build is durable because of the Titanium alloy body and it could endure a few knocks.

The Vibrant display

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is superior to any phone out there. It’s a 6.8-inch LTPO display AMOLED 120Hz refresh rate producing eye-catching details. With a peak brightness of 2600 Nits, it outputs a bright display in sunlight. I had no issues using my phone out on the bright day. But this year Samsung rolled out one of the fantastic features on the display by including anti-reflective coating.

I don’t know why Samsung didn’t market this feature when they launched the Samsung S24 Ultra, but it made a huge difference in display while operating outdoors and in reflective conditions. It makes HDR content watching so much easier and without any reflection distracting us. It’s my go-to phone to watch any media while traveling because the display is sharp with all details and probably the best display I’ve ever used on any phone.

Pointy design

The design of Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is similar to those of Samsung Galaxy S23 and S22 Ultra, which I don’t mind much. The four-camera design is very similar to the previous 2 predecessors which is fine. The brick design with razor-sharp corners gives it a professional look. Also, no media content gets sacrificed due to it. The curved edge display is amazing to use and feels more immersive. But not everything is perfect, if you hold this phone for a longer period in one hand the curved edges dig deeper into your hand and give mild discomfort.

Camera

Let’s talk about cameras in Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The photos captured are brilliant, with shadows, highlights, and details with good color saturation. Any cameras you use like the main lens, Telephoto, Ultrawide, or Periscope lens, will provide fantastic results. My favorite part about the photos captured from this phone is that you can directly post them to social media without editing. The expert raw mode is also there but I never need it. All the cameras and modes do their job brilliantly.

In low-light conditions, the main camera lens struggles a bit and the ultrawide lens struggles even more, even though they gave pretty decent picture quality. The telephoto captures good quality photos till 30x zoom and beyond that loses details. The 100x zoom barely passes for a good photo and is only used for trying out sake. Video recording can be done at 8k 30fps but I’ve used 4k 60fps as my default it gives fantastic stabilization in the video.

S-Pen

The S-pen in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is just an extra item to me. I didn’t get to use it anywhere much. It is good for taking notes but I didn’t require to take some. It helps to capture photos as a remote shutter for the camera. It is nice that it doesn’t add any extra weight to the phone but I would consider losing INR 10,000 on the price value or adding something else despite an S-Pen. The 3D face unlock would be a cool feature to have in its place.

Galaxy AI

The AI features were very marketed during the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which promoted circle to search comes in handy. Besides I used Generative AI Edit multiple times to remove an object. The live chat assist and live translating calls are not important features to everyday users, but they are crucial for users who are involved in international travel or business. For me, Galaxy AI is something I could have lived without. The One UI, however, needs a small tweaking, I removed all the unnecessary Samsung pre-installed apps, excluding Gallery and Files, and installed stock Google Apps. The One UI feels snappy and lag-free. The animations are fluid and smooth.

Battery Life

The battery life is optimized in the new Samsung Galaxy S24, there wasn’t any day when I got under 10% battery life remaining at the end of the day.  With including the days when I’m taking, pictures, videos, and streaming Netflix, so I’m impressed with the battery life. The battery capacity is 5000 mAh, similar to what we have seen in the last couple of generations. I think Samsung should have upgraded the battery rather than optimizing it. But it still gives a day’s charge or a day and a half with mild usage. I want to charge my phone at night and use the phone the whole day without charge, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra gives me exactly that. So I’m impressed here.

Pros and Cons

ProsCons
Magnificent, vivid display including an anti-reflective layerMore expensive than before
A distinctive design that increases the phone’s allureClumsy dimensions, jagged edges
Superb camera configuration with a powerful 5x periscope lensUpgrades are needed for charging speeds.
Dependable battery life that endures all-dayThere are a few AI elements that require improvement.
The user experience is improved with generative edit tools and a circle to search. Not much of an upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Seamless operation that is appropriate for multitasking
Long-term security and support are guaranteed by seven years of software upgrades.

Final Thoughts

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an amazing device, however, I feel less excited, which brings me to my earlier point that something is missing about this phone. Upgrading from the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is not a big deal. You now get all the exclusive Galaxy AI features of Galaxy S24 Ultra in other Galaxy devices via the newer update.

So, what is the reason for upgrading from Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to S24 Ultra? I waited for the Samsung Galaxy S24 ultra to blow me away but it didn’t make much of an impact as such.  But it’s still the best phone that you can get out of there in 2024. And, If you want a Samsung Galaxy experience without paying much, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is still a good choice at lot lower price.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an excellent deal if you are upgrading from any other Android phone other than Samsung’s Galaxy lineup. Let me know in the comments if you have the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Also, share your thoughts and experiences of your past 6 months of usage.
